  20. I have a new 40Mbyte Supra hard disk drive for my Atari ST 1040.
  21. The machine is a few years old with TOS in ROM.
  22. MINIX ST 1.1 doesn't recognize the drive.  I've tried several
  23. approaches includeing running MINIX from GEMDOS with MINIX.PRG
  24. and MINIX.IMG generated from the boot disk.
  25.  
  26. I would guess I need a different hard disk device driver
  27. but I've no idea how I will do that.

  29. Please mail me if you've got this combination to work
  30. or if you are reasonable sure how to do it.

  53. I don;'t know who or how this thread started. But since it has, I'd
  54. like to add some comments.
  55. The Israelli government has used a video in which they start with
  56. a photograph supplied by the soviets, and purporting to be the
  57. id. picture of one Ivan the terrible a notoriously cruel and inhuman
  58. concentration camp guard. They then manipulate this image purporting
  59. to age it over some forty five (45) years, to finish up looking
  60. like the prisoner they have accused on the dock, Ivan Demjaniuk.
  61. This video has been admitted as evidence in the trial of Mr. Demjaniuk.
  62. In the light of what we have seen in at least one of the AMIGA
  63. demos where a persons face has been stretched in all directions.
  64. In the light of the current TV shaving commercial where the same
  65. is being done with the chin of the  face on the screen.
  66. In the light of the common county fair crazy mirrors.
  67.   How can this have been allowed by the Judges bench in the trial
  68.   over the objections of the defence attorneys???
  69. Do you think it is because the judges do not read USENET newsgroups?
  70. Or do you think they are blinded by the mysticism of results
  71. generated on a computer?
  72. Or does it simply fit in with the aims and policies of the government?

  95. The TOS 1.4 release notes describe the problem completely and in loving
  96. detail.  As a rule, YOU DON'T NEED TO KNOW, which is why I don't spend
  97. my days posting long explanations here.

  99. What you DO need to know is this:

  101.         1. If you have Mega TOS or Original TOS (1.2 or 1.0) and a hard
  102. disk, you should use FOLDR100.PRG.  Without it, the system starts
  103. screwing up when you've visited (or even just brushed by) 40 folders or
  104. so.
  105.  
  106.         2. If you have Rainbow TOS or STe TOS (1.4 or 1.6),
  107.                 YOU DEFINITELY NEED POOLFIX3.PRG!
  108.  
  109.         (2a. STe TOS is just like Rainbow TOS in almost every respect;
  110. it isn't an "enhancement" and you shouldn't wait for it to come out for
  111. the ST.  It's just Rainbow TOS with modifications to make it run the STe.)
  112.  
  113.         3. If you have Rainbow TOS or STe TOS you MIGHT want to use
  114. FOLDR100.PRG.  The management of the internal memory (which
  115. FOLDR100.PRG adds to) is greatly improved, but you can still run out.
  116. It's no longer a question of how many folders you've "seen" but rather
  117. of how many  folders and files are ACTIVE, which is to say, in use at
  118. any one time.  Most people don't open a file 40 directories down in
  119. their heirarchy, or two folders each 20 (different) levels down, or
  120. whatever.

  122.         4. If the system ever locks up and tells you to use
  123. FOLDR100.PRG, then you probably should.
  124.  
  125. In short, POOLFIX3 actually fixes a bug which every Rainbow TOS user is
  126. exposed to; FOLDR100.PRG adds memory to an internal pool.  That internal
  127. pool is really badly managed in pre-Rainbow TOSes, and much much better
  128. managed in Rainbow TOS (after you fix the bug by running POOLFIX3),
  129. but in both cases you benefit by using FOLDR100.

  147. using gdos. I regret that I am unable to help, but the description of
  148. your project did spark my interest. I have been looking for a scientific
  149. plotting program with high quality hardcopy for some time now. Do

  151. interested, and willing to pay a reasonable shareware fee.

  161. Why was this article posted?  That information is available to all
  162. developers, is of limited interest to anyone else, and is protected by
  163. the nondisclosure agreement between developers and Atari.  It's not
  164. that this particular information is  all that secret, but posting it
  165. does constitute a violation of that agreement.  I don't want to be a
  166. bad guy about this, but you shouldn't just key in Atari documentation
  167. and post it.  Among the reasons is that you can get it wrong, or leave
  168. out important stuff, and people will complain to us about things which
  169. are not our fault.
